When a quack doctor, Dulcamara, comes to town selling a potion for every ailment, Nemorino asks for a remedy for Adina’s indifference. The charlatan takes what little Nemorino has in return for his “Elixir of Love”—in reality, a cheap bottle of wine. Nemorino, drunk on hope and an excess of vino, stumbles around content, unconcerned, and convinced Adina will fall for him within a few days. Suddenly neglected, Adina finds herself unexpectedly troubled, prompting her to vie to get Nemorino’s attention back by entertaining the advances of a handsome but noxious soldier, Belcore. So ensures chaos!
