Currently a freshman at MIT, he intends on majoring in mathematics and computer science, as well as minoring in music. Justin currently studies violin with Lynn Chang through the Emerson-Harris Scholars program and has studied with Peter Zazofsky (BU) previously. Developing his love for music from a young age, he began piano lessons at age five, took up the violin at six, and started composing music by age ten. Justin’s dedication has won him various accolades across these disciplines. Over the years, he has been the state winner of the Music Teacher National Association (MTNA) Composition Competition multiple times. As a pianist, he has won top prizes at the Bay State and Steinway Piano Competitions; as a violinist, he was named a National YoungArts Winner. Justin has served as concertmaster of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras senior orchestra. He has also participated in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) All-State Orchestra and the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra. During the summer, Justin has attended various festivals, including Berkshire High Peaks Festival and Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s String Quartet workshop. He attended the Roxbury Latin School, where he was a key leader in its chamber music program. At MIT, he has contributed to MIT's newest ensemble, AXIOM Chamber Orchestra, in addition to playing chamber music as part of Chamber Music Society. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family.About the Emerson/Harris Program for Private StudySupport for private musical study is available for students through the Emerson/Harris Program (E/HP), which offers merit-based financial awards for outstanding achievement on instruments or voice in classical, jazz, or world music. Each academic year, the program awards Scholarships and Fellowships to nearly seventy students who commit to a full year’s study and participate in the musical life of MIT.Auditions for the program are held at the beginning of each academic year. Private teacher selections, made in consultation with the E/HP jury heads, may include instructors from MIT staff and throughout Greater Boston. The Emerson/Harris Program is funded by the late Mr. Cherry L. Emerson, Jr. (SM, 1941), in response to an appeal from AssociateProvost Ellen T. Harris (Class of 1949 Professor Emeritus of Music). The Emerson/Harris Masterclass Series is supported, in part, by the Robert L. Malster (1956) Fund.This project is presented as part of Artfinity, an Institute-sponsored event celebrating creativity and community at MIT. Artfinity is organized by the Office of the Arts.

Currently, he performs as an Emerson/Harris Program Fellow and a member of Chamber Music Society at MIT, and serves as an Arts Resident Tutor in Adams House in Harvard College.Daniel has won numerous accolades, including second prize and best performance of required contemporary work at the New York International Piano Competition, first prize at the Boston Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and first prize at the Hartford International Chopin Competition. He has performed extensively, notably in solo performances across New England with the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation Young Artist Series, and as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra. He is also an avid chamber musician and has played in over 30 chamber music groups, with notable performances in the Shalin Liu Performance Center and DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.Daniel is passionate about using music as a bridge to foster new connections. During his undergraduate at Harvard, he organized solo benefit concerts on campus in partnership with The Jimmy Fund, curated coffeehouse events for students to share their music as Arts Chair of his House Committee, and ran sound production for shows in the historic Adams House Pool Theatre. For this and more, he was awarded the Timothy Faron Memorial Fund for Music for “significantly contributing to the musical life of the House.” Returning to Adams as an Arts Resident Tutor, he focuses his efforts on helping current student artists continue Adams House’s long tradition of championing the performing arts.In the Emerson/Harris Program, Daniel studies with Mi-Eun Kim. Prior to this, Daniel studied piano performance at New England Conservatory Preparatory School with Jonathan Bass and with Marilyn Roth, and composition with Rodney Lister.
