Sankranti, also known as Makara Sankranti, is a Hindu festival celebrated in various parts of India to mark the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara). Falling typically on January 14th or 15th, the festival symbolizes the end of winter solstice and the beginning of longer days. Sankranti is characterized by colorful kites filling the sky, traditional feasts, and the exchange of sesame seeds and jaggery, signifying warmth and prosperity.
