This event is part of Boston Design Week.MIT’s design ecosystem has been continuously growing during the last years, generating a vibrant environment where cross-disciplinary collaboration and advanced design techniques are key to address a multitude of design areas — from fashion to health, from astronautics to ecology. Open Design Studio @ MIT offers a unique opportunity to discover this variety of work and to dialogue with some of the designers behind it. The event will present the work on resilience of the Urban Risk Lab, the Self-Assembly Lab’s explorations on autonomous construction processes, and the many design start-ups that have emerged through MITdesignX. Open Design Studio @ MIT will also show the sustainable and participatory design solutions MIT D-Lab has helped to implement across the world, the fabrication possibilities offered by MIT MAD’s shops, and the work of MIT’s youngest generation of designers as part of the DesignPlus First-Year Learning Community.PARTICIPANTSOpen Design Studio @ MIT is a collaboration between the MIT Morningside Academy for Design — MIT’s new design hub, home to MITdesignX, Project Manus, and the DesignPlus First-Year Learning Community — the Urban Risk Lab, the Self-Assembly Lab, and MIT D-Lab.
